Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how X-ray Reference handles information in connection with the website and its educational imaging features.
Service scope
X-ray Reference is a public, non-clinical educational website. It is not presented as a hospital, radiology practice, doctor’s office, or HIPAA-covered clinical service. Do not use the site for clinical workflows or for the submission of protected or identifying medical information.
Information you provide
If you upload an image, submit a contact message, or otherwise interact with the site, we may receive the information you choose to provide. This can include image files, filenames, form fields, email addresses, and message content.
Uploaded images
Uploaded X-ray images may be processed to generate educational output and reference matching behavior. Current uploads are normalized into preview files and stored on the server as part of product operation. Uploaded content should be treated as non-confidential.
Do not upload names, dates of birth, medical record numbers, accession numbers, facility labels, embedded metadata, or other identifying information. If you choose to upload content, you are responsible for removing identifiers before submission.
Automatically collected technical data
Like most websites, we may automatically collect technical information such as IP address, browser and device characteristics, timestamps, referring pages, requested URLs, and similar operational log data needed to operate, secure, monitor, and improve the service.
Analytics and advertising
X-ray Reference uses analytics and advertising technologies, including Google Analytics and Google AdSense, which may collect information about how pages are viewed and how the site is used. These third parties may use cookies, device data, IP address, or similar identifiers under their own policies.
How we use information
We may use information to operate the site, generate educational outputs, maintain security, respond to inquiries, troubleshoot errors, analyze usage, improve the service, and support advertising and measurement functions.
Third-party processing
When relevant features are enabled, uploaded images or related inputs may be processed by external service providers, including model or infrastructure providers, to generate educational outputs or support site operation. Third-party providers operate under their own terms and privacy practices.
Reference data and external sources
The library uses NIH-derived reference examples and related metadata for educational browsing and comparison features. The site may also link to external resources that are governed by their own privacy and usage policies.
Data retention
We may retain uploads, previews, contact submissions, logs, and related operational data for as long as reasonably needed for site operation, troubleshooting, abuse prevention, analytics, legal compliance, or product improvement. We may change retention practices over time.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and operational measures intended to protect the service, but no internet-based system can be guaranteed completely secure. Do not submit information that requires guaranteed medical, legal, or enterprise-grade confidentiality.
No medical confidentiality or HIPAA promise
X-ray Reference is not intended to operate as a healthcare provider, health plan, healthcare clearinghouse, or business associate, and it is not offered as a HIPAA-compliant service. The site does not make promises of medical confidentiality, and it should not be used as a substitute for secure clinical systems.
Your choices
You can choose not to upload images or submit contact information. You can also limit some browser-based tracking through browser settings, ad settings, or third-party opt-out tools, though some site features may still rely on standard web technologies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time by posting a revised version on this page. Your continued use of the site after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
